Skincare Sunday-Neutrogena® Sun Protection Tips

May is skin cancer awareness month.  Did you know that?  Do you take special care of your skin?  Care from the sun?

As the month of May brings skin cancer into focus, it's important to promote prevention and early detection of this common disease. Melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, is the most preventable type of cancer but is still on the rise. According to The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), on average, one American citizen dies every hour from melanoma and it is estimated that during 2014, approximately 9,710 deaths will be attributed to melanoma.

NEUTROGENA® Hispanic Dermatologist Dr. Leyda Bowes presents these five sun safety tips to keep your skin protected at all times:
1.      Look at the technology behind the sunscreen and make sure it is a proven sunscreen technology that is broad spectrum, like Neutrogena's HELIOPLEX®, technology which offers an ideal balance of UVA to UVB filters.
2.      Use a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to be sure that your skin is well protected.
3.      If you under-apply or don't re-apply, your sunscreen is not giving you the protection stated on the label. You need to use at least one ounce of sunscreen and reapply every two hours.
4.      Avoid exposure to direct sunlight as much as possible during peak UV hours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
5.      Prevention is the best strategy. Therefore, application of sunscreen during the day is crucial. Sunscreens like the Ultra Sheer line from Neutrogena® are a great option because they spread easily over skin, absorbing instantly for an invisible, weightless feel. They also provide an even, non-shiny finish that works beautifully alone or under makeup and moisturizers.

The NEW! NEUTROGENA® Beach Defense® Water + Sun Barrier Stick SunscreenSPF 50+ and NEW! NEUTROGENA® ULTRA Sheer® Face & Body Stick Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 70 are ideal for protecting the face and body throughout the day as you can apply them on-the-go.
