January Runner Log

Ok, so as I told you I will be blogging about my New Years resolution to do 1 fitness challenge a month. In January my fitness challenge was the El Paso 5K, which was the same day of the Chevron Houston Marathon & Aramco Houston Half Marathon. Well this is no excuse, but as of the last update mid-month I got sick and was unable to continue training. I had a severe allergic reaction to we still don't know what and was on antibiotics that lowered my immune system. I even had to miss work. I spent most of those days asleep which is one of the side affects of 2 of the medications I was on. So needless to say I gained weight becuase of no exercise, no nothingness, and not keeping my eating schedule. Anyways, I never felt so defeated than for this other half of January. But I did not let this beat me. I was not up for the challenge but even if I had to crawl through the finish line I was. As weak as I felt, I still knew that every bone/muscle/fat inside of me wanted to cross that line, and that is all I needed.

Check out my finish line video.

Once we finished we cheered the rest of the runners as they finished and crossed the finish line. Some people were hunched over as they passed us up from the side cramps. Others were been helped as they crossed. On there numbers were their names, and as we saw some defeated faces we screamed their names to cheer them for the last few steps. The Chevron Houston Marathon & Aramco Houston Half Marathon had thousands and thousands of participants. Do you what a marathon is? According to Websters online dictionary, a marathon is a long-distance race, a: a footrace run on an open course usually of 26 miles 385 yards (42.2 kilometers) b: a race other than a footrace marked especially by great length 2 a : an endurance contest b : something (as an event, activity, or session) characterized by great length or concentrated effort. I was so amazed at all the people, different ages including little kids, who participating in the marathon and half marathon. One of these people if my bestfriend, Elsa. She has been training over several months to complete this challenge, the half marathon. Her goal was to finish in the allowed 4 hours that they give you to finish. You get 6 hours for the full marathon. She not only finish the half marathon but she even beat her goal time of 4 hours.

Meet her husband, Danny. This is his first ever challenge to do and complete.

This race is the first one I have completed and actually received a metal. Everyone who crosses the finish line receives a finisher metal. Here we are with our metals.
