***CLOSED***Giveaway-Welcoming Home A New Baby

***Disclosure-As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this is part of sponsored outreach.  All opinions expressed are my own based on my personal experience.

The month of December is very special to me.  3 years ago, we were expecting our daughter Lil Bit.
We were so excited.  At 14 weeks, I almost lost my beautiful baby.  At that time, the only thing I could do to protect my baby was rest.  Everything was out of my hands.  She has been a little miracle.  Mamis and Papis become different when they become parents.  We become so protective.  We will do anything for our little ones.  In anticipation for her birth, we had everything set up and ready to go.
I am so glad we did, because she had to be taken out early.  It was a very scary time for us but we were ready to meet our little one.  Papi got the car seat and properly installed it in our truck.  We knew we needed to have the car seat in order to bring her home.  After everything, we had gone through keeping her safe has always been a priority.  Car seat safety is very important and should be a priority to parents with infant babies.  Here are some reasons for having your infant in a car seat:
absorb crash forces
-absorbs the force of a crash
-keeps your infant's head and neck secure
-surrounds your infant's body with protection

I am so thankful we have not, knock on wood, been in a serious car accident.  But I know that my baby girl is protected.  I know that my Britax car seat has SafeCell Impact protection.  Just recently, my best friend had a baby and I didn't hesitate to recommend the Britax line of products.  When looking online I saw there are 2 new car seats, the new Britax B-Safe 35 Elite and B-Safe 35 infant car seats.
-The B-Safe 35 Elite and B-Safe 35 feature the Britax SafeCell Impact Protection system, which surrounds an infant with safety technologies that work together to provide the ultimate in crash protection.
-Britax designed both the B-Safe 35 Elite and B-Safe 35 to install with ease, featuring the SafeCenter LATCH Installation
-The new infant car seats are assembled in the U.S.A. with global components.  Offered in sleek neutrals beginning in December 2014, and in bright, bold colors as a baby-registry ready “Shower Collection” in early 2015. The B-Safe 35 Elite in nine fashions and B-Safe 35 in six fashions will be available online and at independent and major retailers.

Thanks to Britax, Independentmami readers get a chance to win one of the new Britax infant carseats - B-Safe 35 Elite or B-Safe 35

SafeCell Impact Protection is an integrated system of safety components that work together to protect your child beyond the established standards. Including our Impact Absorbing Base, Impact Stabilizing Steel Frame, and Complete Side Impact Protection PLUS, SafeCell means your child is surrounded in best-in-class safety.
SafeCell Complete Side Impact Protection PLUS gives your child an advanced layer of protection with an energy-absorbing head restraint designed to keep your baby’s head and neck extra secure.
SafeCell Impact Absorbing Base reduces the potential for injury by compressing to absorb crash energy.

    Being Thankful #ThanksgivingConBritax

So at the beginning of the month I decided to participate on #30daysofThankfulness, there is so much to be thankful for.  Not that the other years have not been good because they have.  But this year I decided to jump on the bandwagon and share with everyone why I am thankful.  See I think we all need to start looking at the brighter side of things, full cups, smile at your neighbors, and be nice to one another.
Here are a few of my thankfulness:

Day #1-Thankful for life, the gifts that God has given me, and his continued guidance everyday he gives us.

Day #3-Thankful for time. Time spent together making memories, time to enjoy my loved ones, time to watch God's miracles

Day #4-I give thanks for the one who holds my hands. The other day my husband and I went grocery shopping, we ran in a older couple who reminded us of ourselves but maybe 40+yrs from now. We are not perfect but he was the one who God put in my path for me to go through this life with.  Thankful for the partner God sent to me. He is my rock and shoulder to lean on. I love him.

Day #6-I am thankful my Matt. He is my gift from God. Because of him, I became strong, self sufficient, independent, a fighter! My reason, my purpose, my 1st unconditional love! My pride, my joy, my baby! I love my Mateo!

Day #8-I am thankful that I have the good fortune to be able to live in a country where there are drs, modern medicine and technology. I am thankful we have a job that offers health insurance that has been affordable. I am thankful we can afford to actually use if needed...not that the home remedies like vicks, honey with lemon, and the big man upstairs dont work but each of these is a luxury many dont have. Be Blessed! Stay Healthy!

Another thing I am thankful for is the truth.  Sometimes we hold on to things that we think are for the good of everyone but in the end they do not help anyone.  You know the saying, the truth will set you free.  The truth has set me free, the weight has been lighted, and now I no longer have something holding me back.  Can you imagine how many people are out there holding a grudge, anger, sorrow, and cannot move forward?

Life is hard enough as it is why live it in a funk.  We need to forgive, let go, and move on.  Appreciate what we have, our families.

Last week as we are already preparing for the holidays, planning ahead, and rushing out to get all the things we need.  Life came to a quick stop.  My son and I left were leaving the parking lot when a truck did not see us and rammed into us.  The truck hit on the side my son was sitting on.  The hit was pretty hard, even with him seat belted in, the truck jolted him left and right.  We are fine, the truck is fine.  Afterwards, when the hands stopped shaking, when my son and I could laugh a little, he said, "Mom, the Britax side cushions saved me brain".
See my daughter's car seat is the Advocate which comes with side impact technology.  They are meant to reduce the side impact crash energy by 45% by diverting crash forces away from my daughter and providing extra protection for the adjacent passenger, in this case, my son.

My daughter was not in the vehicle at the time, but my 14 year old was.  Though this accident was not a serious one, I am so thankful that I know my kids are well protected.  And yes, we need to save my future Engineer's brain.

What I am most thankful for is my family!  They bring me joy, make me smile, and allow me to see all the little things in life that I take for granted.

Wishing you and your family, many blessings and very Happy Thanksgiving!

    Falling For The Season #SafeConBritaxFallFun

I love when the weather changes from the heat that you cannot stand to the wonderful brisk wind in your face.  I love to see the leaves turn and fall.  Though I have never been able to play in the leaves like I have seen on TV, I have always associated that with Fall.  And is still on my list of things to do in the Fall, so if you see me in your front lawn, rolling around in your leaves, don't call the police.

#1-Roll around, toss'em up, and play with Fall leaves

    Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall....

Right when Summer is ending, you see little signs of Fall everywhere you go.  One sign of Fall is always pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins.  I like taking the kids to pumpkin patches.  If you have never been to a pumpkin patch, you should add this to your list.  There are pumpkin patches everywhere.

    #2-Pumpkin Patch

And after you have hit the pumpkin patch after picking just the right one....it is time to decorate it.  Paint it, carve it, or whatever you want...this is a fun activity that even the littlest of your little ones can do.  Toddler Activity 101 can include little pumpkins which they can pick out themselves.  Then decorate with their fingers or paint brushes with adult supervision.  This activity helps with motor skills, learning colors, textures, and family fun all in one.

    #3-Decorate Pumpkin

Right when October hits, scary movies start to play over and over.  A scene that scares me is when the characters get lost in the cornfield and the scary attacker is running after them with some kind of weapon.  I always wondered if I could find my way out.  Challenge accepted, and guess what, bombed.  We got lost in the corn maze for 3 hours, but never found the exit.  We evenly went the exact same way we came in, but we had so much fun.  The only person who conquered his way out was my teen.

    #4 Corn Maze

Now that you stepped into the cornfield what do you see....tractors.  Have you ever taken a ride on a tractor?  I never had.  I did not grow up on a farm.  The farm we actually were at this weekend had a tractor pulling little buggies made for 2 to ride in.  It was so cute, and fun for my toddler.

    #5-Ride a Tractor
Have you ever been to a Fall Festival?  You can find all of these activities and more at your nearest Fall Festival.  Churches, neighborhoods, schools, and even the Zoo get in on all the fun.  You do not have to go to the Zoo to check out the animals.  Some Fall Festivals include traveling petting zoos for the kiddos to enjoy.

    #6-Attend a Fall Festival

The crisp chill that a windy day can bring is just a reminder of the wonderful season we are in.  I love to wear scarfs, hats, and bring on the boots.  Take a break from it all this Fall.  As the leaves turn and fall, take your children for walk outside instead of in the mall.  With all these fun activities I am sure your family will have a ball!
Have you fallen for Fall?  What activities do you like to do in the Fall?  Am I missing something on my list?

    ABC's of Summer #SafeConBritaxFamilies

***Disclosure-As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Board Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this post is part of a sponsored outreach. All opinions expressed are my own.

We have been having so much fun this summer.  I had forgotten how curious a toddler is and how much they can absorb on a day to day basis.  I work Monday-Friday, 8-5.  The week seems to just swallow time especially with my hour commute to and from work.  So spending time with Lil Bit is so important to my husband and I.  This summer we have enjoyed the outdoors and have used them as learning opportunities for both parents and our toddler.

A is Adjust...My schedule is constant but my husband's insist.  What we have done is adjusted to it.  We work around the busy schedules.  All summer long, my son had tennis practice.  So daddy, MJ, and Lil Bit would meet me at the park on days when I am running late, even if mom is in her work clothes.
While brother is at tennis practice, mom, dad, and Lil Bit play, learn, and discover at the playground.  My daughter is a dare devil and loves the slides-by herself, no help please.  When she gets to sliding there is no stopping her, even on water slides she doesn't get scared at all.
And every now and again, she comes and takes a break by grabbing snacks from her snack tray.
B is for Beyond...See the world in your child's eyes.  Go beyond what you see.  The world is their classroom and you are their teacher.

Bird is a word my daughter can clearly say.  She loves bird.  She calls them to come to her.  "here birdie, birdie"  She loves to feed them.  She loves to bird watch too.
C is for create.  Not every kid is the same.  They don't learn the same or react the same.  So each child should be treated differently.  Create moments of learning or be spontaneous.  Allow them to create as well.  A toddler might be too small to teach them about train, planes and automobiles....or are they?

See they love sounds, and shapes.  Wherever we are, if my daughter here's a sound she stops.  We ask her what does she hear?  If she hears a train, she says choo-choo.  We are working on the word train.  If she says an airplane, she says plane.  She is now starting to say helicopter too.

Everyday we step out, we discover new things, new sounds, and new adventures.  Summer has been a lot of fun.  Cooling off at the sprinkler park has been one of her favorite spots, agua/water-another word she can say.  The walks on the jogging trails have been great for spotting different kinds of animals.  Our learning doesn't have to spot just because summer is coming to an end, new adventures await us.  Remember A is for adjust when the temps get cooler Adjust.
This is where our next adventure is taking us.  The open road.  Asta luego!

    Riding Safe Con Britax

Sponsored Post Disclosure: This is a sponsored post as a Safe Con Britax Member and Blogger. As always, all opinions, ideas, and stories stated here are clearly my own.

Thanks to Britax for hosting myself and my fellow Safe Con Britax members at their new headquarters.
Last year, we visited and toured the old headquarters.  (If you missed it, here is my post Britax-Latina Advisory Launching Event.)  My daughter was only 5 months when I made this trip and I learned so much about how Britax was helping keep my daughter safe in our vehicle.  She is now 20 months, getting into everything, and starting to test the waters of terrible 2's.  But one thing has not changed, she is still riding safe in her Britax Advocate 70-G3.  Britax continues to look for ways of making their product safer for our kids.  They also look for ways of making their products better - better and easier to use.

Have you ever tried to install a car seat?  How hard was it?  I remember it use to be so hard.  Britax car seats have LATCH connectors that make installing a car easy as pushing a button.  They are also equipped with a tethering system that minimizes and reduces crash force in case of an accident.  Britax now has the ClickTight Installation System.

Britax ClickTight is so easy to use and install.  The car seat is not moving or going anywhere.  How safe is your car seat installed?  Did you know about all this?  I did not.  But now I do and am sharing it with you.  See that is the main reason I am glad that I am a part of the Safe Con Britax group of mommy bloggers.
I get to learn and then pass this knowledge on to you.  I want all of our babies to be safe.  I know my Lil Bit is riding Safe con Britax (safe with Britax) every time she is safely buckled in her car seat.
I am a mother of 2 and it scares me to think how many babies are not riding safe everyday.  I can sleep better at night knowing that the technology that Britax is using and has placed in all their products will continue to keep my Lil Bit safe everyday.

When you installed your car seat, what was the hardest part?  Did you have a hard time?  What system does your car seat have?

    Our Summer Bucket List

***Disclosure-This is a sponsored post as a Britax Latina Advisory Board Member and Blogger. As always, all opinions, ideas, and stories stated here are clearly my own.

Summer is here.  What have you and the family been up to?  Any fun things?  Our Summer starts before others because work around my son's school schedule.  He starts school early and gets out early.  This year I wanted us to make a list of things to do over the Summer.  I saw the movie New Years and it inspired me.  It doesn't have to be about spending alot of money or traveling very far.  The list you make can be your very own and you can be as creative as you like.  Of course depending on your kid's ages the list will be different.
Here are some of the things on our list to get you inspired:

    1)  Meet John Doe-Do know your neighbors?  When you step out of the your house do you feel like people are watching you?  Why not, step out and say hello to the neighbors.  So step #1 this Summer should be to meet new people, your neighbors, your mailman, etc...Remember back in the days when it took a village to raise a child.  Well do you know your village?  This is a great way for the kids to learn about their surroundings, teach them about strangers, and start a conversation.
    2)  Laugh-Now that you have stepped out, comes step #2.  A smile goes a long way.  Did you know an upside down frown is a smile?  Do things that make you smile!  Make silly faces with your kids.  Play staring games.  Laughter can burn calories, release stress, and work your muscles.  Stop, think about it.  Have you laughed today?  Do you play tickles with your kids?  Do you get silly with them?
      3)  Blood is thicker than water-We do not have many family members here in Houston or in the United States, so we appreciate each other alot more.  Do you have family members you haven't visited?  Some people have family living around the corner.  Summer is a time to slow down with the kids.  Hangout with your extended family.  Work out schedules where someone can take the kids for the day if everyone works.  Work around all the schedules and make play dates.  Enjoy the people you love now, today.
    4)  Discover-Use this time to keep the kids entertained while the discovering your world.  There are so many things to see, touch, hear, etc...  Climb, go underground, slip, slide, the point is to get out there.  You will be amazed how much they learn from the little ones to the big ones.  There things to discover in your backyard, front yard, grandmas, etc...  Like have your kids every caught a lady bug?  Different color lady bugs?  Followed a butterfly at the park?  Seen a bird's nest?  Make it fun for your kids.  Outdoor fun can lead to much discovery.
These are some things to get you thinking about your Summer.  Fun doesn't have cost anything.  Stop and smell the roses.... as parents we too need a little break sometimes.  Have you slowed down this summer?

    SafeConBritax-Mommy On the Go

***Sponsored Post Disclosure: "This is a sponsored post as a Britax Latina Advisory Board Member and Blogger. As always, all opinions, ideas, and stories stated here are clearly my own.

I was walking around the park the other day when I noticed something.  I usually am reflecting on my day and am one with my own thoughts but this time I started noticing all the moms that are out there with their babies.  (Different ages for both moms and babies)  I started reflecting on how times have changed us.

Things have changed from when I was younger helping my mom with my brothers and now with my own children.  I remember going everywhere on public transportation with my mom and my brothers.  We are all about 4 to 5 years apart from each other.  Everything was handed down.  Safety was not really an issue back then.  We weren't even required to wear seat belts.

Fast forward to present day when all passengers are required to wear seat belts.  Kids are required to be in booster seats until age 8 or until they meet the height requirements.  Boy how technology has really advanced us.  It not only has allowed us to be more knowledgeable but to live our lives safer.
I can travel wherever the road leads me and not have to worry about my Lil Bit.  Car seats are so advanced now with side impact protection, safecell techonology, and five-point harness.  I have no worries when I place my Lil Bit in her Britax Boulevard 70-G3.

I remember having a hard time with my son.  He used to like to climb out of his car seat.  It didn't take him long for him to figure out how to climb out.  It didn't matter how tightly secured he was in his car seat.  The funny thing is I believe they had a kid like mine as a tester when child proofing the car seats because now this little one can't get out.  (Don't mind me-I'm trying to plot on how to get out of this, or chew my way out)
And knowing that she can't get out makes me feel at ease.  I know that she is in the safest seat in the car.

But that isn't the only place that technology has advanced me, not just on the road but off road too.  Moms are on the go now.  I remember my mom being a stay at home mom until things changed and the economy made things hard on all of us.  I have been working since I turned 18.  My husband and I work full time jobs and we both work different schedules.  Packing the kids with me is part of the plans and schedules.  When my daughter was born, I remember wondering how I was going to keep up with the soccer practices, soccer games, cross-country, after-school events, and everything else my son was involved in.  But having my kiddo hasn't stopped this on the go mom.  I have been able to attend all events and even been hands free so my hands won't be super tired from baby carrying all day at these events.  My mom always had helped because it was 4 of us when growing up.  She always had me to help her.  But now a days I have noticed most people are only having 2 kids or waiting to have kids.  In my circle most moms have waited to have kids or have a really big gap in between, like me and my 13 year gap.  I am the mom at most events either baby wearing or with a stroller.  I won't miss an event, neither will Lil Bit.  We are there to cheer big brother on.

Full schedules like this also require us moms to be healthy and in shape to keep up with these kids.  Strollers use to be just to pack the kids around from place to place.  The most use that people got out of them was when they went to the park.  We got use out of ours when I was younger because like I said, we rode public transportation.  Those the could not walk, got pushed in the stroller, or carried by yours truly.  I could have used a Britax baby carrier back then.  My back and my arms would have thanked me!!  But now us moms, are fitness ready.  We not only hit the streets in our cars but also on foot.

We do 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, and full marathons.  Quality time is a nice walk around the neighborhood to hear about the day of our loved ones.  We clear our minds from all the crazy work and breath in the outdoors.  (My daughter takes naps on our walks)  We hit the parks and for jogs to clear our heads.

We moms are on the go!
