Sid the Science Kid Discovers the Wonders of Weather in Five New Episodes Starting Sept. 14, 2009 on PBS Kids

Sid's Rainy Play Date-After the threat of rain cancels a playdate, Sid learns all about the wet stuff, including that it comes from clouds and that it helps things grow.
Special Sunny Dad Day-Sid's excitement about playing soccer with his father is dampened by having to put on sunblock. Then he and his pals learn at school why sunblock is important and also discover how the sun helps Earth.
Sid's Holiday Adventure-Sid learns about temperatures when his family, who live where it's sunny and warm all year long, visit relatives who live where it's cold during the winter months.
The Wind Did It-Sid is miffed when he discovers leaves that he raked up in disarray. Then he learns about the wind, which can make sand dunes and waves, and can power sail boats.
Sid The Weatherman-Sid decides he'd like to be a weatherman so that he can choose the weather every day. Then he and his friends learn that weathercasters don't actually control the weather, but do know a lot about it.
My son's favorite subject is Science. So he loved watching his sneak peek DVD. These episodes have so many learning opportunities for kids. Last year a hurricane named Ike hit the Gulfcoast region. It really impacted our lives. How do you explain to your kids about what weather does? Here in Houston the weather changes depending what part of town you are in. For example last year it snowed here. Yes once in a blew moon. But it only snowed in some parts of town, some more than others. My son got to enjoy the snow flurries at school. Just yesterday cold front was coming through, as we drove home from a family night out we rolled the windows down and felt the breeze. The whole drive was warm, cool, cold, warm, hot, cool, etc... The day had been sunny in the 80's. My son said that the weather reminded him of the episodes he had seen. He said Sid would have an answer for the weather. So make sure to tune into PBS for great educational programming.

Keeping with the economic theme, the week-long special episodes will air the same week as a two-hour economy-focused block of PBS programming featuring a Sesame Street primetime special, “Families Stand Together: Feeling Secure in Tough Times.” The special, a Sesame Street production, in association with David Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants Incorporated and Lookalike Productions, will air on PBS on September 9 at 8PM EST (check local listings) and will provide simple strategies and helpful tips that can easily be integrated into families’ everyday routines. The second hour of the special includes WNED’s “Your Life, Your Money” aimed at young adults and hosted by Donald Faison.

PBS Sid the Science Kid review

Do you watch PBS? Do your kids watch PBS?
I grew up watching Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, and other educational programs on PBS. PBS always has great educational programs that the entire family can watch. I like for my son to play with educational toys and watch educational programs. There are always learning opportunities. PBS programs are great for kids. There is always a lesson to learn.
The PBS animated Children’s Series,
Sid the Science Kid is one of the programs my son likes to watch. This program debuted on PBSKids in September of 2008. This month of September, they will be premiering five new episodes. When I told my son he would be receiving a DVD of Sid the Science Guy, he was so excited.

About the show:
"Sid the Science Kid" features a sketch-comedy format to promote science-readiness by encouraging kids' instinctive curiosity about the world around them. The show stars Sid, an inquisitive youngster who tackles the everyday ideas that preschoolers find fascinating (Why do bananas go "bad??" How does my juice box straw work?? How does a bird fly without a plane?).

I like that the show is about Science. When ever we are out and about I try to get my son to think about the world around him. He likes to ask alot of questions. He loves Science. So of course that is why he loves this show.

Sid wonders why birds haven't taken up residence in a birdhouse he built with his father. Then he learns that many animals build their own homes.
Don't Forget the Leaves
Sid learns about leaves, including how they are food for some animals, provide shade, and help make nutrients needed by flowers and trees.
Super Science Tools
Sid and his friends review his scientific tools, which include a chart, an estimation jar, a magnifying glass and a ruler, when he tries to determine which one is his favorite.

Kaskey Kids-Hockey Guys Review

Kaskey Kids has taken sports to another level. My son is allowed to go outside and play but most days he chooses to play indoors. It is too HOT outside. He loves playing sports. We are an all around sports family. We enjoy going to games, but enjoy taking part in the games even more. Thanks to Kaskey Kids for sending my son the Hockey Guys: Blue vs. Yellow.

He had fun playing with his Hockey Guys, especially when his friends came over. They enjoyed role playing. The Hockey Guys were a hit with all the kids.
