Weekend Snapshots | 2

How was your weekend?  I hope it was wonderful.  We had a good one.  This is my 2nd installment of my weekend snapshots, remember I am linking up with Arianna from www.3twentysix.Com and The Reinvention of Jessica.

Here are some snapshots from our weekend:

Friday was "Go Texan Day" here is Houston which means Rodeo time.  My daughter loves to dress up as a cowgirl but what she loves most is all her boots.  Daddy did not dress her up on Friday, so this mami did not get to share her outfit until now.  OOTD picked out by Lil Bit.
And these boots were made for walking!

We headed to the movies.  My seventeen year old wanted to see Deadpool.  We had not been able to
make it sooner since we have our daughter who is not allowed to watch this Rated R movie.  Yes, by this time I have already heard this movie is not for kids.  Like I said I have a seventeen year old and I, his parent, felt he could watch it.  And my nephew had already previously seen it, so his parents were ok with him watching it again.  There are about 3 scenes that are "cover your eyes" scenes, adult jokes, and adult language.  But to me this movie was a comedy.  We laughed.  And I totally missed the scene where Deadpool flashed me, totally missed it.  We enjoyed it and stayed all the way passed the credits.
We ate good too.  Pictured here:  Pupusas and Pan de Pollo which are traditional Salvadorian foods.
We took my son to a college information session which had a dessert reception waiting for us when we arrived.  That kept sister and daddy content while we listened about tuition costs, college credits, and college life at this wonderful school.  This **it just got real.  This school is $32,000 per year.  We have 1 more year to get our stuff together.  There are deadlines and so much to do before that graduation date.  It was a real eye opener for me.

Happy Leap Day!  Until next time.

World's Tallest Roller Coaster-Schlitterbahn Galveston

***Disclosure-I am a USFG blogger.  I am sharing this in exchange for complimentary passes for my family.

Have you ever been to Schlitterbahn Galveston?

Did you know Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Indoor Waterpark has been around for 10 years now.  It was built in 2006.  This waterpark is located on historical Galveston Island and has been voted as the World's Best Indoor Waterpark for 8 straight years. This park features more than 33 attractions and a mile long Transportainment River system.

There are different types of waterslides.  There are different variations but most fall under these 3 -

1)  Gravity-which is a traditional water slide like the Screaming Serpents or Cliff Hanger
2)  Blasters-that can have drops, used with tubes or rafts.
3)  Water Coasters-To celebrate its 10 year anniversary, Galveston will be unveiling a new ride, which will be the world's tallest water coaster - MASSIV!

What's a Water Coaster?  A water coaster is a water ride that has multiple uphill sections, uses a ride vehicle (boat, tube, or raft), and has other ride elements (spirals, fish ladders, water screens, etc.) to deliver a thrilling and fun filled ride.

Schlitterbahn South Padre Island #BahnLove Celebration

***Disclosure-I am a USFG blogger.  I am posting this information in exchange for complimentary resort stay and waterpark tickets for my family.

Schlitterbahn South Padre Island Waterpark is celebrating 15 years since opening.

Built in 2001, this park is home to our Transportainment River system that is designed to maximize time in the water and eliminate lines.  This river system connects eight attractions that feature rapids, chutes, and gentle currents.

South Padre Beach Resort is Green.  The ropes, Green House, lobby check in counter, parapet walls, chandeliers, waterslides, and handrails are all repurposed, and recycled.

3 years ago, we got to visit and learn about the Loblolly Pines from the Bastrop County fire.  Jeff Henry, with Schlitterbahn, offered to take the fallen trees, then had them milled, beginning the process of transforming the pines from scorched wood to the most dramatic feature throughout the Schlitterbahn Beach Resort at South Padre.
Check out my post for more pictures-Travel Tuesday-Schlitterbahn South Padre Island

Weekend Snapshots | 1

This year my plan is to continue what I started last year and stay more connected to my family.  In the end all the hard work we do is for them, right?

I am joining Arianna from 3twentysix in her Weekend Snapshot Series.  This is my first installment of this past weekends adventures.

My weekend started early on Friday at Merlot 2 Masterpiece where I got to paint and sip on wine.
The theme was Mardi Gras.  We painted two masks on a purple background.  My painting was more a reflection of the happy face and sad face.  Not that I was trying to paint it this way but it just came out this way.  As I kept painting, my painting took it's own life.  The top mask was a reflection on the happy me, when everything is fine, more put together.  The bottom mask was sad, imperfect, and was darker.  I was just painting but this is what came out.  Anyways, it was a fun ladies night.

My hubby and I were able to have the Valentine's date we didn't get to have last week.  I had told him I had wanted to go to the park.  He asked if this was going to be like our trip to Austin where we walked a mile for each year we had been together and reflected while the whole time, we were lost without water.  Yeah, that happened and no, it was not.  It was good for us to be able to hangout just the two of us.  We do not get to do that alot anymore and it was much needed.

There are trails.  You can ride bikes.  Make sure to pay attention were you park, were you start, and how far you want to go.
We even stopped at the Houston Police Officers' Memorial on our walk.

We even got to go to the gym together to get a couples workout in.  We had not been able to go to the gym together.  Many people have told me they are not able to workout with their partner.  My husband and I have a fun relationship.  We always have a good time.  He cracks me up.  If you have met my husband, you know he is a clown.  He had set the timer for 1 hour but we ended having so much fun we kept right on going for 30 more minutes.
We reconnected.  We were able to talk, be silly, and best of all, enjoy each other's company.  How was your weekend?  Did you do anything exciting?  This was a snapshot of our weekend.  I hope to share more of these moments with you on the Weekend Snapshot Series.  Until the next one.

Tasty Tuesday-Simple Chicken Wraps

***Disclosure-Sample product was received.  All opinions stated are my own based on my personal experience.

I have been trying to make lifestyle changes not only to my diet but to my family's as well.  I want to give my kid's good habits.  I am making little changes to some of our favorite dishes we enjoy.  I am looking to add more of the good stuff and less of the bad stuff.

-More protein.
-Less Carbs
-Less Sugar
-Less Calories

Chicken Wraps are really easy to make and a favorite at our house.  I do not have a lot of time after work to create fancy meals.  Some meals I make are meal prepped and some are spontaneous.  This one is a favorite because the prep work is done for me.  How great is that?

Ingredients-
-Rotisserie Chicken
-Baby Spring Mix
-Tomatoes
-Kontos Greek Lifestyle Flatbread
I buy my rotisserie chicken already cooked from Kroger or Sam's.  3 oz = 160 calories
I pull the chicken of the bone so it will be easier to serve.  No technique needed.  The left over chicken can be placed in a plastic container for another meal on a different day.

I buy the Organic Baby Spring Mix from Sam's.  3 oz = 20 calories
From the Taylor Farms website-(may contain some or all of the following baby whole leaf varieties: green leaf, mizuna, green romaine, tango, green oak, green chard, baby spinach, arugula, frisee, tatsoi, mache, red chard, red leaf, lolla rosa, red romaine, red mustard, radicchio, red oak, beet tops).
This mix can provide Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, and Iron.  No need to chop or shred.

I like to buy grape tomatoes because my daughter loves to eat them like candy.  I also buy Roma tomatoes.  I cube the tomatoes.  Usually for 4 of us, I only need 2 tomatoes.  Any extra tomatoes my daughter will eat anyways.  No wasting food here.

Then each person can top their own flatbread with as much or little as they want.  You can sprinkle a lime juice, hot sauce, and some shredded cheese as well.
The dietary traditions of Greece and the Mediterranean have long been proven to promote better health and longevity.  Kontos Greek Lifestyle Flatbread is formulated in this better-for-you tradition.  Ideal for wraps, roll-ups or for our breadbasket.  ‘Hand- stretched for fluffiness™’, contains No Trans Fat, and 100% Vegetarian.

Kontos bakery line ranges from flat bread to pizza crust and best of all orders include free shipping.

Movie Monday-Snowtime

***Disclosure-Sample copy was received for review.  All opinions stated are my own based on my personal experience.

What happens when kids get bored?  on snow days?  winter break?  I remember growing up making up world's, playing pretend, and having the time of my life when my imagination would go wild.  When my friends and I got together, oh world watch out.  We were always up to no good.  In the end, there were always lessons to be learned.

There is a new animated movie that captures kids being kids.

Synopsis:
SNOWTIME! is a romp through childhood full of heart and humor.  To amuse themselves during the winter school break, the kids in a small village decide to have a massive snowball fight.  Luke and Sophie, both 11 years old, become the leaders of the opposing sides.  Sophie and her cohorts defend an elaborate snow fort against the assault of Luke’s horde.  Whichever side occupies the fort at the end of the winter break, wins.  But what starts out as pure youthful fun and enthusiasm deteriorates into a more serious conflict, where children learn valuable life lessons on friendship, the importance of unity, and the emotional consequences of vicious rivalry.  The film’s underlying message – neither side wins in war – is as relevant today as ever.

SNOWTIME! is a captivating cinematic adventure about hope and friendship.  The film explores the sometimes mercurial relations between friends during childhood, and the role that enthusiastic competition and energizing solidarity play in the lives of children.

This is a cute film.  My family  enjoyed watching it.  Our favorite character was Lucy, the little sister. She reminded me of my little trouble maker of a daughter. The movie had a lot of funny moments through the film.  It had us entertained.  It is a film we recommend for the entire family.

It comes out today in select theaters.  For more information go to the official website: www.snowtimemovie.com

Toddler Friendly Jewelry

***Disclosure-Sample product was received for your review.  All opinions stated are my own based on my personal experience.

My daughter loves to play with my jewelry but she is still a toddler.  What do most babies and toddlers do?  They stick everything in their mouth.  I have been looking for jewelry that is kid friendly and that she would like.  I happen to have a little diva.

My princess received the Spring Heart Necklace from Juniorbeads.
Juniorbeads is children's jewelry made for ages 3 and up.  It is safe for your kids because it has no BPA, no phthalates, no cadmium, no lead, and no metals.  The beads are 100% silicone (similar to pacifiers and nipples).  Necklaces have a breakaway clasp for added safety.  Jewelry can be used as a sensory tool.  (If using as a sensory tool, please use under adult supervision.)  Easy to clean, just use dish soap and water, also dishwasher safe too.

Your daughter will love these.  They are available in different colors.  They also have dog tags and bangles.  And best of all some even glow in the dark.

If you have baby, you may want to try Chewbeads.
Chewbeads are stylish and add extra interest and color to your outfit.  They are completely safe for your baby or toddler to chew on when they are teething.  Baby-safe jewelry is a great gift for new moms.  It is 100% safe silicone.  It is a piece of fashionable jewelry and e and not a string of baby toys hung around your neck.

Kontos Valentines Pizza Party

***Disclosure-Sample product was received for review.  All opinions stated are my own based on my personal experience.

Happy Valentine's Day!  What do you have planned for your day?  Are you trying to keep a reservation, fighting the crowds, or still looking for something to do?  How about having a relaxing day in?  When I think of romance I think Paris, Italy, gondolas, etc...  It's a piiiizzzzaaa party in my best Italiano voice.  Ok, it sucks but you get the point.  We made pizzas last year for the first time and the kids really liked it.  So I decided to have some fun transform our kitchen into a Pizza Parlor.

Step 1-pizza crust
Step 2-sauce
Step 3-cheese

We like to mix Mozzarella and Sharp Cheddar.
Step 4-topping of choice

We made heart shaped pizzas.
top-pepperoni
bottom-little smokies and bbq sauce instead of pizza sauce
Step 5-oven
Our pizzas were delicious.  I think it had to do with the yummy crust.  Kontos Pizza Parlor Crust has Olive Oil baked in the crust.  It is 100% vegetarian.  It contains No Trans Fat.  Ready in 5 minutes.  Yes, you heard that right.  Need I say more...

Valentines DIY Treat Bag

Valentines Day is tomorrow.  It is a holiday celebrated in the schools, daycares, and super sold on TV land.  Growing up my parents were too busy to think of DIY, Pinterest, or even wasting money buying gifts for a pagan holiday.  Gifts do not have to cost you an arm and a leg.  They can be small but made with love.  You don't want your kids to feel left out.

I like to give thoughtful gifts. It means more to me to put some thought into it. Valentine's Day is no different. It is supposed to be a day where we show each other how much we love one another. I know some people will say things like:

"I love you everyday, not just one day" - but do you show me everyday?  Do you tell me?  Do you appreciate me?  Do you make me feel special in any way?

"The stores made up this holiday to get people in the stores" - You don't have to buy my love.  You just have to show me.  Hugs, time spent together, game night, movie night, something special or different than the normal routine.  We get to caught up in routines and schedules.

Anyway.  Whatever reason you may or may not celebrate, those are yours and yours alone.  I wanted my loved ones to feel special this day.  This is what I did for them.  I made goodie bags.  I personalized each one for each person and I spent under $20.

I went to the store the other day and noticed that V-day cards were $4.99 and higher.  Stuffed animals were at least $5 each.  The decorative bags-don't even get me started on those.  So I decided to make my own bags.  I bought most of my items at the dollar store.  I bought white paper bags.  They were 3 for $1.  I decorated each side and personalized it for each of my loves.
 Dad got a cupid's arrow.   I did 4 hearts-representing each family member.
The goodies in my daughter's bag are a few of her favorite items.  I also gave her a heart puzzle that was specially made for her by a friend.  No cost.
My son's goodies went over budget and broke the bank.  Sometimes you just have to splurge a little. The back of his bag has a poem I made up all by myself.  I am no poet but it came from the heart.
My daughter is small and does not have money.  The teen probably has money but didn't think to buy us anything, I am assuming from previous experience.  I decided to make DAD a bag from them.  I picked a cute card that was 2 for $1.  I also found useful things for him, and favorite candy.
This is nothing big.  It is the thought that counts.  Plus a way to someone's heart is through their tummy.  Candy counts as food, right?  The dollar store has so many great things.  They also have toys.  You can put toys, books, or clothes in your kids' bags.  They have bigger bags for 2 for $1 or $1 bags that you can fit lots of goodies into.  You know your loved ones better than anyone else.

So if you are still looking for an idea or want to give your littles extra goodies, head to your nearest dollar store who knows what you will find.

2016 Scion iA Review

***Disclosure-I got to test drive the New 2016 Scion iA for a week to review.  All opinions stated are my own based on my personal experience.

My family and I attended the Houston Auto Show 2 weeks ago.  A brand that really stood out was Scion.  You have seen those box looking cars out on the road, right?  If you are not familiar with the Scion brand, the original “box,” the xB and the FR-S sports car are all part of this brand.

Scion iA is the brand’s first-ever sedan with a sporty look.
It is newly designed for the savvy generation of drivers like you and me.  It comes complete with so many features, lots of space, new technology and cool styling to fit any lifestyle.
It is up to whatever challenge or opportunity comes your way.  This week I put it up to the challenge of my family, schedule, and it showed us it's true colors.

Challenge #1-Trunk Space
Trunk space is very important to every family.  Latinos have big families.  One meal together could mean lots of extra food and drinks needed.  We don't even need to be celebrating anything.  We love to host all of our family which in our family includes grandma, grandpa, their kids, and their kids' kids.  When we went grocery shopping this week, we did a double take.  We weren't sure all of the groceries would fit.  Was the Scion iA trunk big enough?
It was up to the challenge!  We fit every single item in the trunk, everything.  It passed our test.

Challenge #2-Tech Savvy

The HD Radio Traffic helped me check traffic on every trip.  I normally use my phone to guide me through traffic.  This way I was able to get in the iA and no matter where I went, I knew where not to go.
The Rear-view backup camera was impressive.  It has a wide view.  I have driven cars before and have not felt the rear view camera to be this awesome.  Check out my view-all clear for take off.

Challenge #3 Safety-

How fast is your reaction time?  On pretty days my husband takes my daughter outside to play.  When I get home, I am always on the look out for all the kids on my street, especially my little one.  A normal routine is to open the garage, drive in, and close the garage, right.  My son and I were driving into the garage, as we drove in the iA came to a complete stop.  The car alerted we had hit something.  What was it?  The low-speed pre-collision system is designed to detect objects on the road ahead of you and can, under certain conditions, apply the brakes to help avoid a collision.  We did not hit anything but it was good to know that the car would come to a complete stop.  This time it was a bouncy ball the toddler lost control of as she opened the garage door.

For drivers who think they live the fast and furious lifestyle, Sport Mode is available with the flip of a switch.  I like the Sport Mode.  But what I liked the most was the affordable price.  Price tag is $15,700 for the 6-speed manual transmission and $16,800 for the 6-speed automatic, redefining “entry level.”
