Motivational Monday-Jim McIngvale's Gallery Furniture

Last year I attended Blog Elevated 2013, I had so much fun with all the attendees here in Houston.  One of the fun things we got to do was enter raffles to win different prizes.  One of those raffles was a gift certificate to Gallery Furniture, and I was a lucky winner.
So we headed to Gallery Furniture to see what we could find.  We did not know an adventure awaited us inside.

-An indoor playground for the kiddos
-monkeys
-Exotic birds greet you outside and inside the store in a cages
-Sports Memorabilia and many interesting items on display-like the biggest chair
-Fresh baked cookies
-fresh pop corn
-ice cream
-water
-food
It is a wonderful shopping experience.  You can get lost and spend the day in there.  We did not know exactly what we were looking for and of course I fell in love with so much.  The deals were all great but I was looking for something to pop right out at me.  I had no worries about the kids being unhappy with a trip to the furniture store since we had all of the above, even we the adults were content.  After walking around several times, I finally found what I did know I wanted to buy.  It was off in a room I had totally missed, this place is huge.  It was marked down and in our budget.  Sold!  But my story does not end there, the real story is the man behind the crazy commercial.  Mattress Mac, Jim McIngvale is the guy who made all this happen.  I met him for the first time when I was in 5th grade and I will never forget it.  He told us a monkey story that I did forget but since then he has inspired me and continues to inspire me.  See this guy does so much for our community.

He is a philanthropist, donating money for scholarships, needy families, disaster relief, and supports our military.  I personally remember going to his store as a single parent.  He hosted a giveaway at Christmas time for families, and each kid got a toy.  The kids in line were so happy and grateful.  And so was I.  I had nothing to give my son at the time but Jim gave him something.  This guy is great.  Even after a 4 alarm fire destroyed his store, he rebuilt.  This past February, he gave away furniture after several customers picked the winning team.  There are always great deals in his store and of course great furniture.  But the man behind the story is what is the real story!

Skincare Sunday-Johnson's Reformulation

A couple of months ago I got to make a trip to NYC to visit with the JOHNSON'S® Baby Brand Team.  Thanks to their invitation I got to visit the big apple for the first time, if you missed it read all about it here

Recently they completed a global reformulation of JOHNSON’S® Baby products to remove certain preservatives. The reformulated products have been rolling out globally since early 2013.  But what does that mean exactly?  To me it means that they continue to back up their promise.  It’s also why they continue re-evaluating ingredients to be responsive to the latest scientific developments and to our feedback.  So they are always listening.  That is what I got to see in my experience on my trip.

I got to talk to the scientists.  And they explained the science behind the big words they use, the terminology on the back of packages, and discussed the facts about the reformulation.

-No ingredients were removed due to safety concerns.

I was glad to hear this but even happier to see the real product not be affected by the change.

This is a product we use at home.  I use this on my family.  We have been using this brand for many years, and will continue using this brand.

Did you know these products are formulated to work for a certain amount of time?  This is for those that stock pile.  I did not realize that the ingredients use in the products may separate after sitting our our shelves over 2 years.  I checked all my bottles when I got home, check your dates on your products.

Johnsons is not only living a green footprint on our planet by the changes they are making, but they are using they resources to help all around the world.

They are creating a healthier world, one community at a time.  They support many programs, Baby Cares, that save and improve the lives of women and children.  They are helping get education out to prevent disease in vulnerable populations.  So many programs that continue to help all over.
All mothers want better for their children, and that motherly heart makes us want to help all children.

Do you have a Johnsons baby?
While in NYC, we had the opportunity to walk on the set of the Today Show and Orange Room.

Have you heard of the TODAY JOHNSON'S® Baby of the Week?  Share the precious cutey, ans they could become the TODAY JOHNSON'S® Baby of the Week!  TODAY picks a handful of baby photos every week to feature on Kathie Lee and Hoda and online. Families whose babies are featured on air receive a JOHNSON’S® Baby gift basket and a $50 CVS/Pharmacy® Gift Card courtesy of JOHNSON’S® Baby — those 15 minutes of fame from birth-lol! Good Luck!

The Pirate Fairy Movie Review

***Disclosure-My family was invited to a special screening.  Any opinions stated are based on our own experience.

Do you have any fairies in your house?  Any kiddos that love the adventures of Tinker and the fairies?  Well did you kinow the fairies have a new adventure, The Pirate Fairy.

Trailer - The Pirate Fairy on Disney Video
From the world of “Peter Pan” comes “The Pirate Fairy,” a swashbucklingnew adventure about Zarina (voice of Christina Hendricks), a smart and ambitious dust-keeper fairy who’s captivated by Blue Pixie Dust and its endless possibilities. When Zarina’s wild ideas get her into trouble, she flees Pixie Hollow and joins forces with the scheming pirates of Skull Rock, who make her captain of their ship. Tinker Bell (voice of Mae Whitman) and her friends must embark on an epic adventure to find Zarina, and together they go sword-to-sword with the band of pirates led by a cabin boy named James (voice of Tom Hiddleston), who’ll soon be known as Captain Hook himself. With laughter, heart, magic and thrills, “The Pirate Fairy” sets sail April 1, 2014.

My daughter did not blink, move, or leave her seat the entire time.  This has been the 1st movie ever that has done that.  She loved this movie.  She loves the fairies.  My husband, son, and I also enjoyed it.  My husband our Lil Bit is a combination of Tinker and the New character Zarina.

We recommend it for the entire family.  Add this to your little ones, Easter baskets.

Makeup Monday-Jennifer Gardner 2014 Oscars

***Disclosure-No compensation was received.  Informational post only.

It is Make up Monday and today's look is Jennifer Gardner at the 2014 Oscars:
Makeup Artist Fiona Stiles Inspiration We were inspired by Jennifer's silver Oscar de la Renta beaded column gown which had a modern flapper feel.  For easy glamour to compliment Jennifer's hair, which was polished but not fussy, we wanted to keep her cosmetic look really modern for a universal feel from head to toe.  I also wanted to play off of her dusty rose burgundy nails for inspiration. - Fiona Stiles

Muppets Most Wanted Movie Review

***Disclosure -My family attended an advance screening.  All opinions stated are my own based on my own personal experience.

Muppets are back.  Did you watch the trailer?

Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid, Dublin and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon. Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” is directed by James Bobin and produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Bobin wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller, who is also executive producer with John G. Scotti. Featuring music from Academy Award®-winning songwriter Bret McKenzie, “Muppets Most Wanted”  hits the big screen March 21, 2014.

The Muppets have always been a favorite with me.  I am a muppets baby.  I was so excited to take the family to see this movie after having seen the trailer.   Tina Fey is so funny, love her.  I have been looking forward to Ms Piggy and Kermit - the wedding?  But is there a wedding?  I won't tell.  You have to watch it yourself no spoilers here.

Makeup Monday-Kerry Washington 2014 Oscars Look

***Disclosure-No compensation was received.  Informational post only.

It is Make-up Monday again...today's look is the beautiful, glowing Kerry Washington at the 2014 Oscars:
Step by Step with Makeup Artist Carola González:

Preparation: To prep Kerry's skin I always use Neutrogena® Shine Control Primer on her face and Neutrogena® Revitalizing Lip Balm on her lips for hydration before lipstick application. It really helps to keep lips moisturized and diminish the appearance of dryness on the lips. Leave for at least 20 minutes before lipstick application. For flawless glowing skin, I applied foundation all over Kerry's face to even it out of any imperfections

Cheeks: I highlighted her cheekbones with Neutrogena® Healthy Skin Blends in Sunkissed. This added radiance and the perfect shade of color to Kerry's cheekbones for this specific look.

Eyes: I used Neutrogena® Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Stay-Put Plum all over Kerry's eyelids and blended on crease. I only used one shade to keep eyes to a bare minimum. Next, I used Neutrogena® Nourishing Eye Liner in Cosmic Black to line the upper lash line, right where the lashes connect with the skin, and diffused it with a brush to soften the liner. I then applied 5 coats on top lashes with Neutrogena® Healthy Volume Mascara in Carbon Black to add lots of volume, and two coats on the lower lashes. I really like this mascara because it adds the right amount of volume and you can build a lash without clumps.

Lips: Dark lipstick topped with Neutrogena® MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Rich Raisin to add a bit of sheen.

NEUTROGENA®, the #1 dermatologist recommended skincare brand, is thrilled to introduce a fresh face to its roster: multi-talented teen actress  Bella Thorne.

Bella Thorne - the New Face of Neutrogena

The half-Latina young star is the brand's newest ambassador

Known for her role on Disney's Shake It Up,Bella has always been an avid Neutrogena fan, and has the beautiful skin to show for it.

"I am super excited to be joining the Neutrogena family because I have always truly loved this brand," said Bella. "Beauty to me means beautiful on the inside. Fresh faced when you wake up in the morning. That is beautiful."

A perfect example of a NEUTROGENA® girl, Bella balances her multi-faceted entertainment career while making her skin health a number one priority. The teen star, who is half-Cuban, sees her new role as a great opportunity to serve as a role model for other Latinas.

"I identify 100% with Neutrogena's philosophy of clear, fresh and natural skin and being an ambassador is a true privilege. It makes me very happy to be able to share a positive message of skin health with Latinas everywhere!" said Bella.

Most Latinas are not growing up putting importance on skincare.  I know my mother did not have this on top of her priority list.  It is good that we can have more Latinas bringing this to the younger generation's attention.

Need for Speed Movie Review

***Disclosure-My son and I attended an advance screening we were invited to.  Any and all opinions stated are based on our personal experience only.

Have I told you how much of a tomboy I really am?  I love cars and if I have not told you, use to collect them.  My little brothers messed them all up but that was a long time ago and we have let that go, lol.  When I found out about the Need for Speed movie, my first thought was another racing movie trying to copy that other famous series of movies.  But when I watched the trailer, I was hooked and I was ready for this movie to come out.

DreamWorks Pictures’ “Need for Speed” marks an exciting return to the great car culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when the authenticity of the world brought a new level of intensity to the action on-screen. Tapping into what makes the American myth of the open road so appealing, the story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country journey for our heroes  one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, "Need for Speed" captures the freedom and excitement of the game in a real-world setting, while bringing to life the passion for the road that has made our love of cars so timeless.

The film centers around Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), a blue-collar mechanic who races muscle cars on the side in an unsanctioned street-racing circuit. Struggling to keep his family-owned garage afloat, he reluctantly partners with the wealthy and arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). But just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save Tobey's shop, a disastrous race allows Dino to frame Tobey for a crime he didn’t commit, and sending Tobey to prison while Dino expands his business out west.

Two years later, Tobey is released and set on revenge  but he knows his only chance to take down his rival Dino is to defeat him in the high-stakes race known as De Leon — the Super Bowl of underground racing. However to get there in time, Tobey will have to run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet that includes dodging pursuing cops coast-to-coast as well as contending with a dangerous bounty Dino has put out on his car. With the help of his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

Check out the trailer:

So I am not going to be the one to ruin the movie for you, you just got to go watch it.  If you are looking for something to do this Spring Break weekend this is the perfect movie to take those teens to.  Or if they are bored at home begging you to drop them off at the movies, this is the movie they are gonna want to see.  In case, you didn't know, this movie is based on the video game series.  Who will be the cool mom (or dad)?  I know I was.  My son and I really enjoyed the movie.  There is action, and funny moments.  There is heartfelt drama too.  Lots of action, and plenty of fast cars!  My son now wants a Ford Mustang.

Travel Tuesday-Fort Worth Stock Yards

One thing I want to do more of this year is TRAVEL.  Travel as a family.  Growing up our parents were always working and could not afford for us to travel.  But it is one thing that my husband and I enjoy.  We were taking a short trip to Fort Worth for a Quinceanera and while there decided to visit the Stockyards.  This place is so much fun.  It is like from an old western.  The kids really enjoyed themselves.  There is so much to do here, like:

-Petting Zoo
We quickly found out we were not dressed to be in this old western.  My daughter wanted a hat so we did some shopping.

-Shopping
Next, we headed to check out more of the animals.  We visited the Longhorns.  There is always educational opportunities wherever you go and this was one of them for both the teen and toddler.

-Longhorns

The kids had a lot of fun trying to identify and match each one.  We then ventured around.  Check out this trail.  We did not have time to go take a hike, walk, or jog it but it is on my list when we come back next time.
All the sightseeing, having fun, and shopping made us all a bit hungry.  My husband and I like to find places the the triple D has visited.  No need here because all of this food was smelling so awesome, we made a fast decision and decided hamburgers was the winner.
We even had time to watch the cattle drive.  It only happens twice a day so make sure you add this to your schedule.  The kiddos love it!
We will be back to the stockyards.  This weekend happened to be super cold.  So we will come back when the weather is much warmer, and this time I will bring my hat and boots.  Yee Haw!

With this artic blast hanging around until who knows when, it is good to try and stay as healthy as possible.  Just yesterday I saw on the news a story about our beach having bacteria in it, gross.  And they were talking about the flesh eating bacteria.  Now, when was the last time you washed your hands?  Did you do a quick rinse or did you sing a song, lol?  I remember when I was little they told us to sing the alphabet as we washed our hands in order to washed them really good.  That always worked for me.

Let me introduce to Dial® Deep Cleansing Hand Soap-

NaBloPoMo March Day 5-Me and My Blogging

NaBloPoMo March 2014
Today's Topic-What have I learned about myself through my blogging?

The funniest thing...I started singing an old song but changed the words.  I do that a lot.

"My blogging...
My blogging..
My blogging and Meeeeeee"

Remember the buddy song, buddy the bear.  Yeah, I didn't have one but that song popped into my head.  Ok, back to the topic.

I have learned that I like to write.  Remember a few days ago I told you I disliked English.  I hated Writing.  I took the classes because I had to not because I wanted to.  Writing has become an outlet for me.  I like it.  I learned that I am not the only one, and someone out there could be going through the same thing, thinking the same thoughts.  Blogging helped me find a place to express myself.  So I learned to be more open.  I now take my time and reread what I write as I have a problem typing too fast.

I am still learning.  This is the main reason I decided to do this NaBloPoMo.  We will see what else I discover about myself.

Fitness Friday-Steps 4 Students 5K

I have a new found love for running and I know I sound redundant when I keep writing that but I do love to run.  But what I enjoy the most is that I get to do this with my family.  This hobby helps me keep up with my healthy lifestyle.  I try to find races that are available in my city that are cost effective so that we all can participate.  In February, we participated in the Steps for Students 5K for the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese.  My friend's children attend and so it is great that we can help them with this fundraiser.

What is a 5K?  5K = 3 miles

You do not have to run.  Most of these are fun runs that include family walks.  Everyone can participate and you can even push strollers that is what is so fun about this.  You can go online and find tools to help you get to where you want to be.  I am not where I want to be but I try, try, and will keep trying.

This is the route of the 5K we did.
The day was not too hot or too cold for a run.  I like when the route is a straight shot and not a lot of curves.  This even when through some streets with a lot of shade so it was perfect.  So how did we do, you ask?

1st Place-MJ 27 minutes
2nd Place-Dad 28 minutes
3rd Place-Mami 35 minutes

We had fun and that is all that counts.  I will tell you that none of us wanted to wake up this morning.  We had a lot of things on our plate this day.  But we made no excuses and went out there.  A practically 30 minute run and we were done.  Look I burned 355 calories in that 5K run, we had family time, and we helped a great cause.

Finding a race in your area can be as easy as goggling- Run/Walk in _____ city

I challenge you to do your first 5K by the end of this month.  Good luck!
