It is a #HersheysHalloween

Are you planning a party this Halloween?  Do you have activities planned for the kids?  Some kids do not like the spooky and scary part of Halloween so sometimes you have to get a little creative with Halloween parties.  I love to create fun games for the all ages to enjoy from the little ones to the big ones.

First up, Halloween candy people.  The kids can let their imagination go wild and let them create little monsters, mummies, ghosts, whatever they would like scary or not.  There are no rules.  Just provide tools they can use.  Tools we used:

-Rolos
-Cadbury Creme Egg
-toothpick
Next, we made little Ice Cream and Candy Cemetery.  We made tombstones by cutting KitKats and Hershey's in smaller pieces.  Used food coloring to paint the whipped cream.  Also made little ghosts with the whipped cream.  Tools we used:

-ice cream single serve cups
-whipped cream
-green food coloring
-Halloween KitKat snack size
-Hershey's milk chocolate snack size
All treats are edible for the kids to enjoy while they are having fun using their imagination.  Next we played games.  One game we love to play all the time is Tic Tac Toe.  All we needed was a board to play on.  Tools we used:

-Halloween KitKat snack size
-Hershey's kisses (2 different colors)

Another fun game we like to play came inspired from the Carnival.  This one is fun and everyone gets prizes.  Each person gets 5 chances to get the candy in the cups without knocking over.  Or you can do 3 in a row.  Tools we used:

-plastic cups
-Rolos
-prizes (i picked up small toys from the $1 store)
If you are having a pirate themed Halloween party, you can also use the candy as props.  Tools used:

-Rolos (because they are gold)
-Hershey's kisses (because they are silver)
Of course after everyone has had a lot of fun, you can make candy bags for everyone to take home.  Or you can put the candy in witches pots and have them fill their own.  I love the Halloween candy shaped like pumpkins from York, Reese's, pumpkin spice Hershey's kisses, and the orange KitKats.
I fixed candy bags for the kids to take home to play with.  Each bag have lots of goodies for them to enjoy once they leave.  I also put their names on them just in case someone grabbed a bag before leaving so that the bags would not get mixed up.  You know kids they then to put things down and then lose them.
Planning a party this Halloween?  Got any ideas you want to share....I would love to hear what works for you at your parties.

Werther’s Original® Baking Bash MommyParty

I am so happy I was picked to host a Werther’s Original® Baking Bash MommyParty.

Last year for my daughter's birthday I tried to make Caramel Apples.  I can honestly tell you I was doing too much and bombed.  I was so upset because it was part of my theme.  My husband saw how frustrated I was and came to the rescue.  I had burned the cornstarch or something and I had quit.  You can't rush that process.  When I received this party kit and saw the recipe ideas, I was ready to try again.  But that was not the only thing included in the party kit, the Werther’s Original® "Baking Bash" MommyParties Kit includes:
  • 12 bags of Werther’s Original® Baking Caramels
  • Coupons,
  • Recipes
Thanks to Werther’s Original® and MomSelect MommyParties I was able to give Caramel a second chance.  I enjoy eating it but after last year's little incident have been scared to try to make goodies with it.  Caramel Apples vs Independentmami Part 2-

The Werther's Original Caramels are easy to use and make delicious tasting apple desserts for any party you are hosting.  These came out perfect.  I didn't mess them up or burn the caramel.

Before the party guests arrived, we had Caramel Mocha Hot Chocolate ready for them.  It only took 15 minutes to make.
Ingredients needed:
milk, sugar, instant coffee, chocolate (i use the caramel instead), Werther's Original Baking Caramels, and whipped cream

You can find these and other yummy Caramel recipes on Werther's Original Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WerthersOriginalUS You can also visit www.werthers-original.us/caramel-shoppe for exclusive savings, recipes and information.

Falling For The Season #SafeConBritaxFallFun

I love when the weather changes from the heat that you cannot stand to the wonderful brisk wind in your face.  I love to see the leaves turn and fall.  Though I have never been able to play in the leaves like I have seen on TV, I have always associated that with Fall.  And is still on my list of things to do in the Fall, so if you see me in your front lawn, rolling around in your leaves, don't call the police.

#1-Roll around, toss'em up, and play with Fall leaves

Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall....

Right when Summer is ending, you see little signs of Fall everywhere you go.  One sign of Fall is always pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins.  I like taking the kids to pumpkin patches.  If you have never been to a pumpkin patch, you should add this to your list.  There are pumpkin patches everywhere.

#2-Pumpkin Patch

And after you have hit the pumpkin patch after picking just the right one....it is time to decorate it.  Paint it, carve it, or whatever you want...this is a fun activity that even the littlest of your little ones can do.  Toddler Activity 101 can include little pumpkins which they can pick out themselves.  Then decorate with their fingers or paint brushes with adult supervision.  This activity helps with motor skills, learning colors, textures, and family fun all in one.

#3-Decorate Pumpkin

Right when October hits, scary movies start to play over and over.  A scene that scares me is when the characters get lost in the cornfield and the scary attacker is running after them with some kind of weapon.  I always wondered if I could find my way out.  Challenge accepted, and guess what, bombed.  We got lost in the corn maze for 3 hours, but never found the exit.  We evenly went the exact same way we came in, but we had so much fun.  The only person who conquered his way out was my teen.

#4 Corn Maze

Now that you stepped into the cornfield what do you see....tractors.  Have you ever taken a ride on a tractor?  I never had.  I did not grow up on a farm.  The farm we actually were at this weekend had a tractor pulling little buggies made for 2 to ride in.  It was so cute, and fun for my toddler.

#5-Ride a Tractor
Have you ever been to a Fall Festival?  You can find all of these activities and more at your nearest Fall Festival.  Churches, neighborhoods, schools, and even the Zoo get in on all the fun.  You do not have to go to the Zoo to check out the animals.  Some Fall Festivals include traveling petting zoos for the kiddos to enjoy.

#6-Attend a Fall Festival

The crisp chill that a windy day can bring is just a reminder of the wonderful season we are in.  I love to wear scarfs, hats, and bring on the boots.  Take a break from it all this Fall.  As the leaves turn and fall, take your children for walk outside instead of in the mall.  With all these fun activities I am sure your family will have a ball!
Have you fallen for Fall?  What activities do you like to do in the Fall?  Am I missing something on my list?

Sunday Funday at Dewberry Farm

Thanks to Dewberry Farm for inviting us to visit them in Brookshire, Texas this weekend.  We had a fun-filled Sunday with our kids.  Who knew that this place existed in our neck of the woods?  I did not.  I have been looking for a place to take  my kids to have some Fall fun and come to find out there was a place so close to home.  Dewberry Farm opens at noon on Sunday and closes at Dusk.  We took the small drive.

GENERAL ADMISSION includes:
Wagon Ride to Pumpkin Patch, 8-acre Corn Maze, Cow Train Ride, Fort DewHickey, Hay Mountain, Giant Roller Slide, Culvert Alley, Black Momba, Singing Chickens, Barnyard Area, Rubber Duck Races, Pig Races, game area at Lake HorseShoo in WindMill Park, Farmer Flinger, Little Farmersville, Corn Box, Puzzle Maze, Hi-Strikers, Tether Ball, SpringTown, and the Armadillo ChooChoo (wooden play train).

There is fun for all ages from small to big.  But if you are worried about the littles, don't.  All littles get in free.  And there are activities for them to do; pony rides, jumping pillows, carousel, slide mountain, pumpkin hollar, train ride, and much, much more.

And there is a special spot if you have an infant- need to nurse, change a diaper, cool off, or whatever you little may need in THE NEST located close to the front and right near the restrooms and is air conditioned.

Plan your day accordingly.  We attempted the corn maze, got lost in the maze, determined to find the real exit, and then we lost track of time.  My teen is the only one who conquered the entire maze.  Then we headed to the pumpkin patch.  The kiddos had lots of fun running around picking pumpkins, and seeing the different ones.  There were green, red, orange, and some white looking ones.  Some that looked scary too.

The pumpkin patch field is the perfect place to have to take pictures with the kids.  All the parents were having little mini photo sessions with their kids.  Some kids like mine did not want to cooperate and did their own thing.  We had a lot of fun but did not get to do it all so we will be back for more fun on the farm.

By the way, this weekend and next weekend happen to be the busiest weekends of the season.  Dewberry Farm is open in October and November on the weekends.

Bring sunscreen or you will get burned.  It cooled off a light was the sun started going down so grab a light sweater.  We got a little muddy in the corn maze but the kids did not mind at all.  Come early and stay late to enjoy the entire farm.

The Hundred-Foot Journey Coming August 2014

***Disclosure-No compensation was received.  Informational post only.

Production has begun on the feature film adaptation of DreamWorks Pictures’ THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY, starring Academy Award®-Winner Helen Mirren, based on the best-selling novel! Lasse Hallström is directing with Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey (pictured below with star Helen Mirren) and Juliet Blake producing.

In “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own escalate to all out war between the two establishments – until Hassan’s passion for French haute cuisine and for Mme. Mallory’s enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon), combine with his mysteriously delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures and imbue Saint-Antonin with the flavors of life that even Mme. Mallory cannot ignore. At first Mme. Mallory's culinary rival, she eventually recognizes Hassan's gift as a chef and takes him under her wing.

The movie opens in theatres on August 8th, 2014!

Wings Over Houston has so many things that the entire family can enjoy.  Just check out their schedule:

Approximate Show Schedule:  (subject to change)

-radio control aircraft demo
-opening flag jump-national anthem
-Paul Fiala Barnstorming
-Red Tail P-51C
-Tiger Cat
-Tora! Tora! Tora!/WWI Airpower
(Doolittle Raiders, America Trains for War, Naval Aviation, Texas Flying Legends, European Theater)
-Korean War 60th Anniversary Special Tribute
-Wingsuit Jumpers
-Dusty from Disney's PLANES
-Shochwave Jet Truck
-Michael Goulian Aerosports
-Matt Younkin's Twin Beech 18

There are activities for all ages, young and young at heart.  For the little ones, Dusty from Planes will be at the event with an interactive play area for the kids and a "real" Dusty aerial performance.
There is a carnival area with games, rides and crafts.  Plan your day accordingly because there are so many planes to see, autograph opportunities, and even touring the aircraft.  If you have a teen like I do they may be interested in the United Freestyle Stunt Team.  Get ready to see some huge back-flips, tail-whips, 360's, mega spins and other jaw dropping, heart stopping stunts from this team.   I am sure this is going to be one of the hot spots and is circled on our list.  You can also experience special aircraft displays like the Tuskegee Airmen P-51C and the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit.
Making a pit stop here will get you the chance and honor of meeting the RISE ABOVE exhibit are three Tuskegee Airmen:

-Charles McGee - Tuskegee Class 43-F, June 1943. McGee flew throughout WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and retired from the miltiary in January, 1973 with a record-setting 409 fighter combat missions.
-George E. Hardy - Tuskegee Class 44-H, September 1944. Hardy flew 21 combat missions over Germany during WWII, and 49 combat missions piloting B-29 bombers over Korea. He retired from the military in 1971.
-Alexander Jefferson - Tuskegee Class 44-A, January 1944. Jefferson flew sucessful missions over Germany, until on his 19th mission, his P-51C was shot down and he was captured by the Germans and became a Prisoner of War (POW).

A few tips from me:

1)  Wear comfortable shoes because you will be covering a lot of ground and will be on your feet.  I have worn flip flops but the bottoms of my feet ended up hurting me for a couple of days afternoon.  Lesson learned and now I wear tennis shoes because they have support.  Also light weight clothes, Houston has been really hot lately even with the weather dropping in the afternoons.
2)  I suggest bringing ear plugs.  They have them on the grounds for sale but if you have some really good ones already at home bring them especially for the kiddos.  The noises and sounds may be too loud for some of them.
3)  Wear lots of sunscreen, and bring ball caps or hats.  This is an outdoor activity and the sun will be blazing.  Don't leave the sunglasses in the car you will need them when you want to look up the sky and see the beautiful planes in the airshow and the sun is in your face.
4)  Bring cash.  The food and drink vendors are cash only.  We always forget to bring cash on hand.
5)  Charge your camera batteries.  You will want to take pictures of everything you see.
6)  If you are bringing little ones, I suggest bringing a small light umbrella stroller for them to rest their feet when they get tired.  Also, you can throw you bags on the stroller and rest your hands.
7)  No large bags are allowed.  Do like I do and pack light but pack accordingly.
8)  And most importantly for you, bring your lawn chairs if you are buying general admission tickets.  If you don't and you are tired, you might end up sitting on the floor like I have done.  You can also bring a blanket instead of the chairs and that won't be so heavy to carry around.  I throw it on the stroller.

So are you excited about going to the Wings Over Houston show?  Would you like to win some tickets?

Cinderella Coming March 2015

***Disclosure-No compensation was received.  Informational post only.

The timeless story of “Cinderella” dates back to 1697 when first created by Charles Perrault, although it truly came to life for millions all over the world in 1950 with Walt Disney’s celebrated animated feature.

Walt Disney Pictures announced today that principal photography has begun at Pinewood Studios in London, on “Cinderella,” Disney’s first-ever live action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale.

Director Kenneth Branagh says: “It is impossible to think of Cinderella without thinking of Disney and the timeless images we’ve all grown up watching. And those classic moments are irresistible to a filmmaker. With Lily James we have found our perfect Cinderella. She combines knockout beauty with intelligence, wit, fun and physical grace. Her Prince is being played by Richard Madden, a young actor with incredible power and charisma. He is funny, smart and sexy and a great match for Cinderella.

The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Drisella into the family home. But, when Ella’s father suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” She will not give in to despair nor despise those who abuse her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an employee at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears as if her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming “Kit.” Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand as a kindly beggar woman steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, changes Cinderella’s life forever.

“Cinderella” will be released through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on March 13, 2015.

Zulay Henao's Red Carpet Look-Neutrogena

***Disclosure-No compensation was received. Informational post only.

Planning on attending any Fall or Winter parties?  Have you started looking and planning out your look.  Christmas parties are coming.  I like recreating the star's red carpet looks.  I may not be a celebrity makeup artist but as long as I have the steps I can follow them and recreate.

Zulay Henao headed to the 2013 Alma Awards red carpet but not before celebrity makeup artist, Elizabeth Ulloa gave her a fresh and flawless look.  She is a Neutrogena Hispanic Beauty Ambassador.

Complexion:
1. To prep skin, use NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin® Primer for long-lasting makeup and an even skin tone.
2. Mix one part NEUTROGENA® Oil-Free Moisture Combination Skin, two parts NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin® Liquid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 20 in shade #50 for a dewy, flawless application.
3. Next, use NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin® 3-in-1 Concealer for Eyes Broad Spectrum SPF 20 in Medium underneath the eyes, followed by NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin® Brightening Eye Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 25 in Light as a highlighter, brightening up the eye and blending with fingers so the product becomes a "second skin."
4. To set the makeup, use NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin® Pressed Powder in Light to Medium only on the TZONE.
Eyes:
5. To achieve Zulay's eye makeup look, use NEUTROGENA® Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Stay Golden on the brow bone and inner corner of the eye adding luminosity.
6. Next, apply NEUTROGENA® Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Constant Copper on the eyelids and outer corners / lower lash line for definition.
7. For full and flirty lashes, use NEUTROGENA® Nourishing Eye Liner in Cosmic Black and make a tight line across the upper lash line. Then use the liner right in between the lashes for a fuller lash effect.
8. To finish up the eye makeup, use NEUTROGENA® Healthy Lengths Mascara in Carbon Black to elongate the lashes for a faux lash look.
Cheeks:
9. To achieve a gorgeous flushed look, use NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin® Blends in Pure on the apples of the cheeks, forehead, chin and tip of the nose. Next, lightly dust NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin® Custom Glow™ Bronzer in Sunrise Glow all over the face and décolleté for a beautiful, all-over glow.
Lips:
10. Finish off your Red Carpet look with pretty pink nude lips by mixing NEUTROGENA® MoistureShine® Gloss in Healthy Blush, NutriBerry and lastly, Super Sparkle right in the center as a highlight.
I like that this look is so natural.  It does not look caked on.  Perfect for Christmas parties.
