Oz The Great and Powerful 2013

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth, with a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire (credit not final). Grant Curtis, Palak Patel, Philip Steuer and Josh Donen are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.

Inspirational Woman Maria Celeste

Looking towards 2013 I have been thinking alot about my New Year's Resolution.  What happened in 2012 and what can I change in 2013?  What have I learned?  Well one of the highlights of 2012 was meeting Maria Celeste, an inspirational woman who opened about and shared about her life.

Thanks to Johnson & Johnson I was able to meet Maria Celeste.  I like meeting powerful women, and that she is.  She is also a very lovely REAL person like you and I.  Here is my interview:
Sometimes listening to someone's story can be life changing.  Their struggle, their success, their heartache, whatever it is, we can learn from it.  I was glad I was able to chat with her and learn a little about her.

Who has inspired you?  Will you be the inspiration for someone in 2013?  Were you someone's inspiration this year that past?

And The Winners are....Pediped and Eucerin

Holiday Traditions

Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah everyone has some traditions they do at this time of year.  I remember growing up, visiting my mom's bestfriends family.  Going to their house was amazing.  Lots of family, food, and festivities!  Growing up, we kind of started doing our own thing.  Our family has now grown and we have started new traditions.  New traditions to our Latino family which we did not grow up doing, just seeing on tv.  Some traditions we have revamped.

1)  Build a Ginger Bread House.  We had never-ever done this.  It was so much fun!  We got creative.  We worked together.  And it is still standing!!  We bought a kit that already had everything we needed, so it was not that hard.  (Kit under $10)  We also baked cookies, made a cake, and even our very own homemade icing.
2)  Visit Santa.  My mom's job has a breakfast with Santa for all the employees' kids.  It is so much fun.  They have breakfast, cookie decorating, and best of all, everyone can sit on Santa's lap.  Well everyone who wants to?  This is as close as we got to Santa without my daughter becoming the exorcist.  They have Santa's almost at every mall now, and it is not too expensive.  We did it for FREE, so even better.
3)  Trim a Tree.  I have seen over the years of how stressful Christmas has become.  But it doesn't have to be.  Let's take it back to the basics.  Make it a family event.  Make ornaments.  Decorate the tree together.
4)  Attend a Holiday Party.  Don't sit at home alone.  Get out an enjoy yourself.  Everyone is having parties.  Invite yourself.  I was my mom's date to her company Christmas party.  It was fun.  Free dinner, drinks, and entertainment.  Mother-Daughter night, just the two of us!!  Check out my mommy rock this dress.
5)    Family Time!!  Enjoy your time together.  There is a reason for this season.  Use this time to see family you have not seen in awhile, family you see everyday but don't have time to spend with them on a regular basis, and friends that come and go, just pop in on them just to say hello.  Go ice skating.  Have a snowball fight, build a snowman, or wish for snow like us in Texas.  Wear tacky Christmas sweaters, funny Christmas socks, or silly Christmas pajamas.

This has been the best Christmas ever with our family, especially with all the new addtions to our family.  We want to wish you Happy Holidays from our family to yours!  To new Traditions!
***Disclosure-This is a sponsored post as a Britax Latina Advisory Board Member and Blogger. As always, all opinions, ideas, and stories stated here are clearly my own.

Frozen 2013

Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) taps Jennifer Lee to join Chris Buck at the helm of its 53rd full-length animated feature “Frozen,” which is slated for the big screen on Nov. 27, 2013. Lee, who has contributed to the film’s screenplay, is one of the screenplay writers of this year’s hit arcade-hopping adventure “Wreck-It Ralph.”

Featuring the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, “Frozen” is the coolest comedy-adventure ever to hit the big screen. When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna, a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

“Frozen” producer Peter Del Vecho says the match-up is perfect. “Jenn has a real connection to the film and creates dynamic and relatable characters. Her sense of comedy, adventure and story structure paired with Chris Buck’s vast experience and incredible instincts create an ideal situation for this film.”

Lee's screen adaptation of John Steinbeck’s “The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights” is being produced by Troika Pictures. She has an original screenplay in development with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way, and her original script “Lucid Dreams” was optioned by Wolfgang Peterson's Radiant Productions. Lee holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University and a BA in English from the University of New Hampshire.

Buck directed (with Kevin Lima) Disney’s 1999 high-swinging feature “Tarzan,” which won an Oscar® and a Golden Globe® for Best Music/Original Song (Phil Collins’ “You’ll Be in My Heart”). He directed (with Ash Brannon) 2007’s Oscar-nominated “Surf’s Up” for Sony Pictures Animation. His credits within animation also include 1989’s “The Little Mermaid,” “The Rescuers Down Under” (1990) and “Pocahontas” (1995).

With original songs by Tony®-award winner Robert Lopez (“The Book of Mormon,” “Avenue Q”) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“In Transit”), “Frozen” journeys into theaters Nov. 27, 2013, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters. For more information, like us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/DisneyFrozen.

DULUTH, GA, Nov. 5, 2012 –Sprout Foods offers chef-created, healthy and organic baby and toddler foods, believes everyone – including infants and toddlers – want to savor holiday home-cooked eats.

With the help of renowned chef Tyler Florence, a 15-year Food Network veteran, author and father of three and one of Sprout Food’s founders, Sprout Foods offers up these two delicious holiday dishes: Roast Turkey with Sweet Potato, Apples & Brown Rice and Butternut Squash Macaroni & Cheese. These recipes feature whole foods and fresh ingredients that echo Sprout Foods’ long-standing mission to deliver culinary inspired, organic foods for babies and toddlers, served up in eco-friendly, easy-to-use packages.

Roast Turkey with Sweet Potato, Apples & Brown Rice

Here’s a straightforward, easy-to-prepare meal the whole family can enjoy!

1/2 pound boneless turkey breast
1/2 large sweet potato, scrubbed and halved
1 Gala, golden delicious (or any fresh in-season apple)
1/2 small yellow onion, halved with layers separated
1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 cup cooked brown rice (or wild rice), warm or at room temperature

Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Arrange the turkey, sweet potato, apple, and onion on a rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with 1 1/2 teaspoons of the oil.
Roast uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the turkey has reached an internal temperature of 155°F when tested at its thickest point with an instant-read thermometer. Let the turkey rest for 10 minutes.
Divide the meal into adult and child-friendly portions. For the kid portions, shred the turkey into small pieces and scoop the sweet potato flesh and apple from the skin. Place in a food processor along with some of the onion. Add a few tablespoons of brown rice. Drizzle in the remaining 2 1/2 teaspoons of oil and pulse on and off until coarsely chopped. Serve warm.

Makes 3 to 4 adult servings or 6 kid servings

Note: You can use additional ingredients or swap out others to create variety and add nutrients, such as cranberries, brussel sprouts, cinnamon, rosemary, ground pepper and salt (for flavor if preferred).

Butternut Squash Macaroni & Cheese

Nothing like sneaking some healthy, vitamin-packed vegetables into a classic kid-friendly dish!

1 medium (1 to 11⁄2 pounds) butternut squash, halved lengthwise, seeds removed
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper
12 ounces small pasta shells
1⁄2 cup whole milk
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Place the squash, cut-side up, on a baking sheet. Drizzle with the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Bake until tender when pierced with a fork, 30 to 40 minutes. Remove the squash from the oven and allow to cool for 5 or 10 minutes. Leave the oven on and reduce the temperature to 350 degrees. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions, or until just al dente. Drain the pasta and transfer to a large bowl.
When the squash is cool enough to handle, use a spoon to scoop the flesh into a food processor. Add the milk and puree until smooth. Add the squash puree to the pasta and fold together with a rubber spatula until combined. Grease a 9-inch square or round baking dish. Spread the pasta mixture evenly in the dish and top with the cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted and the top is golden, 5 to 7 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Makes 4 to 6 adult servings or 8 kid servings

Promise Monsters Review

Are you still looking for Christmas gifts?  Need a gift idea or stocking stuffer.  Do you have a hard time teaching your kids abut good deeds?  Or have you started teaching your kids about kindness to others?  Here is a unique idea:

Promise Monsters, aadorable new line of plush toys that helps kids spread cheer this holiday season and year round.  The high-quality, hand-sewn plush monsters each come with kind “Monster Missions” for kids to complete, such as sneakily leaving nice notes on your neighbor’s doorstep or saying something nice to every person they encounter for a whole day. Complete the deed, and points are earned that can be redeemed online for toy accessories, more missions and even charitable donations.

Inspiration for the cuddly characters came from a simple drawing by co-founder and company president Michael Bogan’s son, and evolved into an exciting way to do good deeds and earn rewards. There are three different monsters ($29.95)–Frank, Squiggly and Spike–and three smaller Smarshmallows ($9.95) in multiple colors. You can purchase the toys online or at select independent toy retailers. Right now, shipping is free!

Spike $29.95

One of our original Promise Monsters, Spike is made with super-soft and fuzzy materials, and has posable arms, a bonus pairs of socks, and the cutest little feet and tail you've ever seen. He's tough and mean and all yours.

My thoughts-Spike, the promise monster is soft and cuddly.  He may look mean, and tough but he is so the opposite.  I like that he came with a mission, like all promise monsters do.  These monsters help teach smaller children good deeds, kindness, and and it rewards them too.

The Green Refrigerator Machine by Ozonator™ Review

The Green Refrigerator Machine by Ozonator™, like the fabled Justice League, has a mission to stop the billions of dollars of annual food waste by arming Fresh Food Heroes and Families with the Green Refrigerator Machine. The Green Refrigerator Machine (GRM) is an eco-friendly, award-winning and inexpensive refrigerator update that uses patented ozone technology to keep food fresher longer, preventing waste, and extending healthy life of refrigerated foods. Even though the Green Refrigerator Machine by Ozonator™ cannot control the initial cost of fresh fruits and vegetables, they strive to share the message of their solution that keeps the cost of eating this lifestyle much more affordable.

Scientific Data:
For more than a century, ozone has been safely produced for commercial and industrial purposes. It was first discovered and named by the German scientist C.F. Schonbein in 1840. The world’s first water treatment plant using ozone was installed in Oudshoorn, Holland in 1893. And today, there are thousands of public municipalities – including many of the largest cities – around the world that are using ozone to clean their water. But there are many more useful benefits that we derive from Ozone. Ozone is used safely and effectively in air conditioning systems to enhance air quality, health and comfort. Ozone, in sufficient quantities, will reduce levels of airborne bacteria, fungi, mildew, mold and viruses that multiply in ductwork and filters. Ozone has also been used to help eliminate odor, mold, and mildew in poorly ventilated bathrooms. Watering houseplants with “ozonated” water will add oxygen and nitrogen to the soil and raise the pH, which will promote growth and healthier plants. Washing your fruits and vegetables in ozonated water can help remove some residuals for pesticides and herbicides used by growers. New uses for ozone are being discovered everyday. There is little doubt that ozone will continue to play a big part in nearly everyone’s life in the future. And of course the Ozonator™ is now perfect for helping your refrigerator smell fresh and clean, while helping to protect your perishable foods from spoilage.

My thoughts-About 3 months ago I told you about juicing.  Juicing requires lots of veggies and fruits to be purchased at one time.  You have to be stocked up at all times, especially since all the entire family was doing it.  Well what happens when you have a refrigerator jam packed with stuff?  Heck what just happens when it is regularly stocked?  I hate wasting money by throwing food away.  What I like about the Ozonator was that it helped keep the food in our refrigerator fresher longer.  We even had my daughter's birthday cake, cupcakes, rice krispie apples, heck what did we not have in that refrigerator.  Over Thanksgiving we also filled up up with lots of great goodies and then when it was all over, lots of left overs.  The machine worked great and I had no need to throw anything out because it got ruined.
For more information, head to The Green Refrigerator Machine by Ozonator™.

Freaky Pets Review

Are you looking for stocking stuffers or Christmas gifts for your little ones?  Have you heard of Freaky Pets?

The Pets are real, living, breathing creatures that just happen to look exactly like plush toys that transform from cute to cranky, and a little like Oscar the Grouch!

Now, a little background because Freaky Pets don’t ever want anyone to feel like a stranger! Freaky Pets are from Petania, an ancient place that is 4,000 miles southeast of the Ben & Jerry’s plant in Vermont (they’re kinda obsessed with Ice Cream, just like Snape!), just north of the equator, and a little south!

My thoughts-Freaky Pets is a 2 for one.  It is a soft stuffed animal that transforms.  It is a good size for kids to carry around and play with.  It is really easy to transform from nice to cranky.  Just turn you Freaky Pet around and open the velcro.  The transformation is that easy.  Lil Bit liked her Freaky Pet going to nice to cranky and back to nice.

Check out Freaky Pets on facebook for more information.
